AN EXERCISE IN FORM AND STRUCTURE

As a tenured teacher at Bauhaus, artist Josef Albers would challenge his students to transform a single sheet of paper into a three-dimensional structure. Based on Albers’ practise, the lescaze is a homage to the radically modernist buildings found on the Dartington estate designed by Swiss-American architect William Lescaze in the 1930s.
These modernist buildings are what remains of the short-lived artist haven that existed on the estate between 1925-1987.
